Steps
- 1
For meatballs: In a large bowl, combine ground meat, breadcrumbs, 1/4 cup Parmesan, egg, milk, 1/2 of the chopped onion, 1 minced garlic clove, 2 tbsp parsley, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined. Form into 1-1.5 inch meatballs.
- 2
Heat olive oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Brown meatballs in batches on all sides. Remove meatballs and set aside.
- 3
In the same pot, add remaining onion and garlic; cook until softened (about 3-5 minutes). Stir in crushed tomatoes, season with salt and pepper. Bring to a simmer.
- 4
Return browned meatballs to the sauce. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for at least 45 minutes, or up to 2 hours, stirring occasionally.
- 5
Cook spaghetti according to package directions until al dente.
- 6
Serve meatballs and sauce generously over hot spaghetti. Garnish with remaining fresh parsley and Parmesan cheese.
